The Most Advanced Wireless
Soil Moisture Sensor

A Sensor System Like No Other

Soil Scout is the first-ever soil sensor system that allows you to place any number of fully buried wireless sensors all across an area, giving you a complete real-time underground weather map to your fingertips. It is the most advanced and cost-efficient soil monitoring solution for professionals in agriculture, golf and sports turf maintenance.

By using Soil Scout, hundreds of
farms and other agriculture professionals worldwide become even better in their data-driven agronomy. The system enables learning and controlling of soil conditions for optimized growth, as well as savings in operational costs and inputs. Golf courses and sports fields use Soil Scout to improve turf quality, minimize quality variations, and reduce maintenance costs, chemical usage and water consumption.

The Key Difference

You can place Soil Scout underground wireless soil sensors in several well-chosen locations across a field in an "Install and Forget" manner. Contrary to equipment sticking out of the ground, the fully buried sensors are driven and planted over, they will wet and dry, freeze and thaw, with the soil. Immersed in what ever occurs in the underground, the sensors will provide you with accurate and real-time soil moisture, salinity and temperature data from where the growth really happens - the root zone. The online Soil Scout Monitoring Service allows you to view current and historical soil data on an intuitive graphical interface, whether it’s on mobile or desktop computer.

Battery Life 20 Years

The Soil Scout Hydra sensor has the most outstanding battery lifetime on the market – up to 20 years. The maintenance free sensors operate completely autonomously in the ground, which is why once installed, the solution provides you with an unmatched perennial measurement consistency, also leading to a superior cost efficiency over the years.

Quick and Easy to Install

Soil Scout wireless sensor is easy and quick to install. Just drill one hole with a cup-cutter or shovel. The fully-buried sensors don't disturb turf maintenance or farming work, golfers, athletes, or players. You can start with a handful of sensors and add more as per your soil monitoring needs. It scales for both small and large sites and everything in between. Soil Scout sensor features the longest battery lifetime in the market – up to 20 years. The sensors operate their entire life autonomously in the ground and do not need battery replacements, software updates or maintenance.

Real-time Soil Data

Soil Scout sensors measure soil moisture, temperature and salinity, and transmit the data to the Base Station for uploading to our cloud server with regular intervals. You can log onto the web-based Monitoring Service for soil conditions anytime, anywhere with a smartphone, tablet or laptop.

Unmatched Radio Technology

Soil Scout has patented an exceptional radio technology. It empowers the sensors with the capability of communicating efficiently in all soil types by autonomously adapting the underground antenna to current soil conditions. Combining the unique antenna with an equally unique method of creating a high-energy radio transmission burst with unparalleled power, no other solution can compete with the communication reliability and battery lifetime Soil Scout delivers.

Easy and Quick Installation

Simply dig the wireless sensors into the ground – or drill a hole with a cup-cutter. Soil Scout is the only soil sensor solution which you can freely distribute across a field - Install and Forget!

Fully Buried Sensors

The fully buried sensors do not disturb your turf maintenance or farm fieldwork and are safe from wheel pressure, golfers, wildlife, players and the public.

Sensors Run 20 Years Underground – Maintenance-free

The sensors run up to 20 years below the ground without any maintenance – it’s the most cost-efficient solution!

Real-time Soil Data

Smart sensor placement provides real-time data of areal differences in moisture, temperature and salinity, which enables treating each area individually and optimally - Soil Scout staff will assist you in choosing the best locations.

Measure Soil at Any Depth

Soil Scout sensors can be placed at multiple depths, depending on your measurement needs. The patented underground wireless technology is tested for 2 meters (6 feet) below the ground.

Sensors Need No Cellular Network

Place Soil Scout sensors wherever you want to monitor soil – regardless of whether the cellular signal can reach the spot. The sensors connect automatically to the Soil Scout Base Station, which centrally relays all data to the cloud over 4G/3G/2G.

Easy to Expand

The monitored soil area is easy to expand by simply adding more sensors to the system – no need for complicated pairing, new SIM cards, or data subscriptions.

One Sensor for Moisture, Salinity, and Temperature

Soil Scout sensor measures three types of soil data: moisture, salinity, and temperature. It provides you with a long-term view into soil behaviour, enabling accurate and informed soil management instead of traditions and guesswork, but also builds up long-time records for your future needs.

Web Dashboard

The dashboard visualizes soil moisture, salinity and temperature data in many intuitive ways. You can easily check current status, follow trends, recognize patterns and compare soil conditions in different areas, anytime and anywhere using any device with a browser.

Solution Components

Wireless Sensor

Measure soil at any depth up to 2 m/6 ft below the ground. The battery life allows for up to 20 years of underground operation without maintenance. Three critical soil parameters: moisture, salinity, temperature. Uploads data to the cloud in regular intervals (choose between every 5-55 minutes). Sensors do not need cellular network, SIM card, or data plan.

Monitoring Service

The sensors automatically upload soil data to the cloud-based server – you can access the real-time Dashboard using a smartphone, tablet or laptop. View current status, history, trends, and compare different areas. Perform analytics and set alerts.

Base Station

The Soil Scout wireless sensors don’t need cellular connection themselves. They use our patented underground radio technology to connect to the Base Station, which you can place in an optimal location to set up a full wireless coverage on your property. Typical range over 500 meters. The Base Station connects to any cellular network for data uplink.

Echo Repeater (Optional)

If more wireless reach is needed to connect more widespread sensors, the solar-powered Echo Repeater provides you with a wireless range extension of 5–10 km line-of-sight. You can place the light-weight, cable-free Echo Repeater anywhere at your property to extend the wireless coverage.

With accurate and real-time underground soil data, you are no longer dependent on inaccurate weather forecasts, evapotranspiration models (ET), or above ground observations and hand-held probes, which poorly correspond to the root zone growth conditions. Now you can make better, data-driven decisions! Some of the key benefits are:

Soil Scout wireless soil sensors enable you to increase profitability by improving crop production and using fields more efficiently. Finally seeing and understanding what happens underground, you can reduce costs on operations such as irrigation, and adjust your farming operations and inputs in an optimized way.

Golf Courses

Underground soil monitoring helps you improve golf turf quality, minimize quality variations, and maintain optimal playing conditions, longer. The Soil Scout wireless sensors and accurate soil data saves your maintenance costs via optimized irrigation, reduced water consumption, and more efficient use of inputs.

Sport Fields

With wireless soil sensors, you can improve turf quality and provide users with uniform playability across your fields throughout the season. The underground soil data allows you to optimize grass growth, and adjust the field hardness to minimize injuries. Meanwhile, you can reduce maintenance costs by reducing water usage, avoiding leaching of fertilizers, and adjusting inputs more efficiently.
